UrbanArts is a progressive, not-for-profit community arts council. We provide opportunities for diverse cultural expression, artistic experience, training and employment to urban communities with a focus on youth in central west Toronto.
UrbanArts is seeking a creative senior high school or post-secondary student or freelance videographer with excellent communication and organizational skills, and who preferably resides and/or attends school in the former City of York. The candidate should have some experience working in an arts setting and be comfortable working with and around other youth.
Responsibilities:
• Creating a 15 – 20 minute video displaying UrbanArts summer programming during the summer of 2009
• Planning all shoots and the general concept of the documentary with the Executive Director and the program managers from each project
• Sourcing music for the documentary from own royalty-free music collection and from UrbanArts’ artists
• Filming events and taking photos of the UrbanArts community arts space and exterior sites
• Interviewing artists, participants, and community members on film
• Planning the edit with the Executive Director and printing final copies in both DVD and .jpg format with periodic approval and input from the ED
• Providing a positive artistic attitude in collaboration with all staff, youth, and community members
• Representing UrbanArts and the community in a positive manner, and as a proponent of positive messages about race, interaction and all items in the UrbanArts Code of Conduct
• Maintain safety procedures and be a proponent of positive messages about race, interaction and all items outlined in the UrbanArts Code of Conduct
Requirements:
• Understanding of the operation of video, audio and lighting equipment in order to coordinate and participate in recording and editing projects
• Candidate will need to provide own video and editing equipment
• Image editing, video editing and client collaboration
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with multiple stakeholders required
• Sense for digital video and photography and possess skills necessary to categorize, archive and retrieve digital assets
• Understanding of the needs and issues of priority/underserved neighbourhoods, and working with marginalized youth
• Ability to travel to various locations, maintain flexible hours, to lift and carry equipment
• Able to submit samples of your work on request
