UrbanArts is a progressive, not-for-profit community arts council. We provide opportunities for diverse cultural expression, artistic experience, training and employment to urban communities with a focus on youth in central west Toronto.
UrbanArts is seeking a youth from ages 15-19 who are interested in working as part of a team and enjoys community arts, culture and/or design. Candidate should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be enthusiastic about working both independently as well as with and around other youth. Knowledge of the Weston community – particularly south of Weston and Lawrence – in terms of issues, needs and communities – would be an asset.
Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and support multidisciplinary arts programming for the 2008 UrbanArts DreamBuilding Program, and be an active part of planning, outreach, programming, and team building in a leadership role
• Assist the DreamBuilding Program Coordinator in recruiting youth artists, leading and planning meetings, major projects and special events
• Monitor attendance, evaluations, and assist in the coordination of publicity and fundraising for DreamBuilding projects, including liaison with Weston residents, parents, schools, and organizations
• With the DreamBuilding Program Coordinator, secure sites for community arts projects and select youth to be hired for the duration of the program
• Help develop timeline for the DreamBuilding project and report progress on timeline on a bi-weekly basis to the DreamBuilding Program Coordinator
• Help plan and carry out at least one major youth arts festival and two visioning and planning sessions with homeowners and local community leaders about the importance of arts programming in Weston-Mt. Dennis
• Maintain safety procedures and rules of conduct, and be a proponent of positive messages about race, interaction and all items outlined in the UrbanArts Code of Conduct
