UrbanArts is a progressive, not-for-profit community arts council. We provide opportunities for diverse cultural expression, artistic experience, training and employment to urban communities with a focus on youth in central west Toronto.
UrbanArts is seeking an individual to be responsible for managing a team of youth artists, along with a project leader. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be enthusiastic about working in a supervisory role and enjoys community arts, culture and/or design. In-depth knowledge of the Weston-Mount Dennis community – in terms of issues, needs and trends – would be an asset.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the DreamBuilding Community Leader to develop, implement, and support multidisciplinary arts programming for the 2009 UrbanArts DreamBuilding Program, and be an active part of planning, outreach, programming, and team building in a leadership role
• Field resumes and applications for youth artists, select artists for interview in person at UrbanArts
• Using project budget prepared by Executive Director, manage all program expenses, and report bi-weekly to ED
• Ensure positive growth of youth artists through shared artistic learning, collaborative work, and implementing creative solutions when conflicts arise
• Develop Marketing and Public Relations around the DreamBuilding Project with the ED
• Along with DreamBuilding program staff, plan and carry out at least one major youth arts festival and two visioning and planning sessions with homeowners and local community leaders about the importance of arts programming in Weston-Mt. Dennis
• Write evaluation report at conclusion of the program highlighting the artistic concept, activities, timeline and budget of the DreamBuilding Program
• Maintain safety procedures and policies and be a proponent of positive messages about race, interaction and all items outlined in the UrbanArts Code of Conduct
Requirements:
• Post-secondary education in Human Services or equivalent education and experience
• Analytical skills to identify and resolve problems, assess needs, formulate recommendations and apply appropriate action
• Demonstrated skills in planning and hosting community or other events
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, excellent organizational skills
• Experience with effectively building and managing cross-functional working relationships across multiple teams, able to work with a diverse group of people and personalities
• Must have the ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as work independently with little supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities while working under tight timelines
• Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with community, professionals, partners and UrbanArts staff
• Self-starter with strong capacity for independent action and initiative including decision-making and negotiating
• Experience in and knowledge of the needs of priority and under-served neighbourhoods
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, demonstrating data collection and report writing abilities
• Social and multicultural sensitivity
• Current Police Clearance Check required
