UrbanArts is a progressive, not-for-profit community arts council. We provide opportunities for diverse cultural expression, artistic experience, training and employment to urban communities with a focus on youth in central west Toronto.

Beats.Mind.Movement Summer Intensive Program is an intermediate level urban music program for youth 16 -24, who want to enter the music industry. Activities focus on: in studio production, song writing plus vocal techniques and music industry business.

UrbanArts is seeking an older youth (19- 24) who is interested in assisting arts programmers in managing a team of youth artists, and who enjoys music production. Candidate should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be enthusiastic and comfortable about working with youth.

Understanding of digital music production software and techniques or experience as a musician is strongly preferred. Please indicate extent of experience on your application.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to youth learning experience by drawing on your own musical knowledge in beat production, vocals, and/or the music business.

• Work closely with the Beats.Mind.Movement Program Manager to develop, implement, and support multidisciplinary arts programming for the 2009 UrbanArts Beats.Mind.Movement Summer Intensive Program, and be an active part of planning, outreach, programming, and team building in a leadership role

• Assist the Beats.Mind.Movement programmers in executing a successful music program for 16 youth, and ensure positive growth of youth artists through shared artistic learning, collaborative work, and implementing creative solutions when conflicts arise

• Supervise small teams and direct activities as per a lesson plan, Help maintain group order and focus

• Facilitate guest speaker sessions

• Maintain safety procedures and be a proponent of positive messages about race, interaction and all items outlined in the UrbanArts Code of Conduct
